Auto Winter Checklist
The Holidays are the time of year where we spend time with friends and family, this may mean we’re on the road more often than usual. It’s important to make sure our cars are prepared to take on the elements. We have 5 items for you to check off your winter auto checklist to make sure our cars are in tip-top shape:
Check your battery
In extremely cold temperatures, your car requires more current from the battery to start up the engine. To make sure your battery has enough juice, run a battery load test to make sure your car will start up on those very cold mornings.
Inspect your tires
If you have tires with worn treads, that can be a serious danger in colder temperatures. Even though we don’t get much snow in South Louisiana, we still have the danger of ice on our roads. Traction is key so make sure that your tires have enough tread or grip to get you through the winter. If there’s not enough, it may be time to replace your tires. It’s also important to check your tire pressure because cold weather can cause the air pressure in your tires to drop. Make sure it is at the level that the manufacturer recommends.
Change your oil
It is important to keep your oil changed in every season but especially in the winter because cold weather thickens oil. This is why your oil needs to be refreshed as often as recommended to make sure your vehicle is running correctly.
Ensure visibility
Being able to see during the winter months is a top priority. This is why you should make sure the windshield fluid in your car is full. Replace your windshield wipers as well if they are not getting your windshield as clean as it should be.
Check your belts and hoses
When cold weather arrives, it can weaken the belts and hoses that keep your engine running. Inspect them for wear and tear such as cracks or tears. If you see any of these signs, it’s time to replace them.
Whether you’re using your car more around the holiday season or just want to make sure it’s running smoothly, safety should always be a top priority. Checking these things off of your auto winter checklist will ensure the safety of you and your family.
